About
A robot at the Ardh Kumbh Mela

I am an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Northwestern University, where I teach courses in Hindi-Urdu language and literature, and on South Asian literature, film, and history more broadly. My scholarly interests are focused on South Asia and include urban and regional history, film, food studies, and the history of language and literature. My research focuses primarily on the urban history and intellectual life of Patna, a city in the north Indian region of Bihar. I am the author of, among other things, Provincial Metropolis: Intellectuals and the Hinterland in Colonial India (Cambridge, 2025).

I also run Green Ink Academic Editing.
