About
I am a historian of modern South Asia. My work focuses on urban and regional history and on histories of language and literature, especially Urdu and Hindi. My dissertation (Department of History, University of California, Berkeley, 2015) examined Patna, a city in the north Indian region of Bihar, and showed how it retained its vitality even as it was increasingly seen as a part of the “mofussil,” or provinces. I teach courses on Hindi-Urdu language and literature as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Northwestern University.
